Top 15 Most Anticipated Films of 2015

#5-1

#5: Captain America: Civil War (April 29)

When I first set about doing this list, I had Civil War far higher than five. On the surface, it looks like a shoe-in for either first place or second. However, the more I thought about Civil War, the more I realised I was mostly excited out of obligation. Personally, I just haven't connected with this one yet. I have no doubt it will be awesome, but the trailer they released just didn't seem as epic as this whole thing has been built up to be. However, obviously, it's just a trailer. And I won't lie, I got a shiver seeing what few shots I was given of Black Panther. Seriously, this guy looks so awesome it'll be worth the price of the ticket just to see him in action for the first time. That aside, Tony Stark and Steve Rogers are about to go head-to-head, and I definitely can't wait to see that. There's just other things that I'm a little more impatient for.

#4: X-Men: Apocalypse (May 26)

I love Michael Fassbender. X-Men Apocalypse is a large ensemble piece, but I just thought I'd put that out there. I love Michael Fassbender. And from the moment X-Men: Days of Future Past ended, the next film in the franchise was guaranteed a spot in the top five. Although the first trailer for Apocalypse seemed to disappoint many people, I loved it. Ever since First Class, I've loved the franchise's new direction as doing origin movies as if they are the main series, to the point that they are the main series now. And with Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac - could this cast get any better?) entering the fold, it is incredibly exciting to see the likes of Scott Summers (Tye Sheridan, Mud), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner, Game of Thrones) and freaking Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee, Slow West) back in the game! Days of Future Past was awesome and incredibly entertaining, and I'm expecting Apocalypse to take that a step further and give us the best X-Men film yet (yep, even better than X2!). Fingers crossed!

#3: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (expected December 16)

It really sucks that this ended up at 3. I really wanted to put this first or second, but I couldn't justify putting it ahead of the other two. That being said, HECK YEAH THERE'S ANOTHER STAR WARS MOVIE THIS YEAR! Not only is the wait for Episode VIII only a year-and-a-half instead of the standard three, but we're getting the first ever Star Wars Anthology film between then. Rogue One is going to be incredibly interesting as it is the first ever live-action Star Wars film outside of the main series. The success of failure of this film will determine whether Disney go forward on making even more Anthology films that will explore the awesome universe George Lucas gifted us. On top of that, our very first taste of this Anthology series is one we all know too well; the stolen Rebel plans! That's right, Rogue One will give us the story of how the Rebel Alliance got their hands on the Death Star plans that had Darth Vader in such a fuss at the beginning of the original Star Wars film. And speaking of, given the time period we're looking at, there's every chance this film coudl feature a cameo (or more) from the big man himself. Would you like to see Darth Vader back on the big screen? I sure as hell would! Any time a Star Wars film, main series or not, is released, I will get crazily excited for it. And Rogue One is no exception.

#2: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (March 23)

I bet you thought this was number 1, didn't ya? Well, sorry to disappoint, but poor old Batman v Superman is only the SECOND most anticipated movie of the year. I know, what an insult. Only second out of hundreds of releases. All jokes aside, this film took a serious hit and almost fell down the list a fair bit when the most recent trailer was released. It wasn't the overload of action that bothered me, it was that major villain reveal that I probably could've done without. Although I was a little annoyed, I had to stop and think to myself; "you're going to see Batman and Superman in a film together for the first time". It was at that moment that Dawn of Justice flew right up where it belonged, near the very top of this list. As a self-confessed DC sympathiser in the DC/Marvel battle, I loved Man of Steel and so am incredibly excited to see the new adventures of Henry Cavill in the iconic tights. Throw Ben Affleck as a perfectly casted Batman into the mix, and you've sold me on it for probably the fifth or sixth time. Add WONDER WOMAN into it, and you've got a hell of a feature on your hands. Although I am admittedly worried this will turn into the character fest that gave Avengers: Age of Ultron issues, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. For now, let's all eagerly await Batman and Superman coming together on the silver screen for the first time ever.

#1: Assassin's Creed (December 21)

I love Michael Fassbender. I do believe I mentioned that earleir. And having him playing the lead role in a film adaptation of one of my favourite video game franchises is extremely comforting. Add in the fact that Marion Cotillard is alongside him, and I am extremely confident that Assassin's Creed is going to be an awesome movie. As I said at the beginning of this list, these are personal selections, and Assassin's Creed is no doubt the most personal of them all. Though Warcraft is a major blockbuster, Assassin's Creed is the film that will really make-or-break the future of video game adaptations. The concept of this series is amazing, and one that will play out incredibly on the screen if handled right. The decision to not directly adapt any of the video games was smart, and I think this is a franchise that film audiences will readily jump on board and look forward to sequels for. Assassin's Creed is the kind of action film that can transcend the genre and also be a platform for magnificent storytelling. I think Assassin's Creed will blow people away when it finally arrives, and I will be among those in the front row begging for it.
