#1: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

STAR WARS! It came, I saw, it kicked ass. Holy crap, I'm still in shock that it's finally here and I've seen it three times. Putting The Force Awakens at the very top of this list was a tough decision. I spent a long time trying to step out of my three-year-old shell and examine the movie critically, trying to ignore hype and anticipation and just look at the film as a film. When I realised how impossible this was, I remembered that this isn't a list of the films this year that were the best when I thought critically about them. No, these are the films that I liked the most, and if you think that Star Wars wasn't the coolest thing to get dropped on us this year then jog on! No but seriously, this movie turned out better than even I expected. All of the new characters were awesome and incredibly loveable, while all of the old characters were, well, they were themselves. The Force Awakens really felt like a Star Wars film, it captured the magic that made the original trilogy so good. Was this because it took a large chunk of its plotline from A New Hope? Who knows and who cares! It was Star Wars and Star Wars is awesome when Star Wars is done right. George Lucas, thank you so much for creating this incredible franchise. And J.J. Abrams, thank you so much for getting it to the top of this list. The Force Awakens was a kickass movie and I will continue seeing it in the cinemas because it was just that damn good.
